If I already have plug-in surge protectors in my home, do I really need SurgeShield?

Plug-in surge protectors do not typically protect major motor-driven appliances. The combination of a meter-based device, such as SurgeShield, and plug-in suppressors provides exceptional protection against surges that pass through electric lines.

SurgeShield will handle surges up to 100 times greater than plug-in suppressors, and acts instantaneously to reduce, if not eliminate, the amount of surge entering the home.

Plug-in suppressors handle reduced levels of electrical surges and are most effective with smaller electronic equipment and devices. SurgeShield is available for single-family homes, duplexes, condos and townhomes.

SurgeShield will handle surges up to 100 times greater than plug-in protectors, and acts instantaneously to reduce, if not eliminate, the amount of surge entering the home through electric lines. Afterwards, it is the plug-in protectors that handle these reduced surge levels that can affect sensitive electronics. Plug-in protectors handle surges that enter through other lines such as cable, telephone, satellite, internet or other connections. The SurgeShield program does not cover sensitive electronics, such as TVs, computers, etc., however it is designed to serve as the first line of defense to help protect major motor-driven appliances from damaging surges that pass through electric lines.
