Facts about air conditioning filters:
- Keeping the filter clean can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5 - 15 percent.
- Clogged, dirty filters block normal air flow and significantly reduce a system's efficiency.
- The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters.
- With normal air flow obstructed, air that bypasses the filter may carry dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil's heat-absorbing capacity.

4. What is Microban® Protection with an FPLES Advanced Allergen Care Filter?
Today's high performance filters are capable of trapping many of the micro particles, including some as small as bacteria and fungi, and are designed to last up to 90 days. Unlike some inert particles which may be trapped in your furnace/air conditioner filter, bacteria and fungi are living organisms. Under certain conditions these micro organisms can multiply on unprotected surfaces, potentially resulting in odors and adversely affecting the performance of the filter media. The presence of Microban® product protection in the filter materials is not intended to affect airborne micro organisms, but can help reduce the uncontrolled growth of odor causing microbes on the surface of the filter material itself, where you need it the most. Microban® is not intended to affect airborne micro organisms.

5. How Often Should I Change Air Filters?
Local air quality surrounding your home and the environment within your home can significantly affect the useful life of your filter. Pets, painting, construction projects, etc. within the home reduce filter life. For most Florida homes, FPLES recommends replacing your filter every 60 days or before they become completely covered with dust or other debris. This will help prevent harmful back pressure on your HVAC system. Even the highest-quality filter can't do its job right if it's clogged with a thick layer of particles. Changing air filters more frequently can also help to reduce energy costs.
30, 60 & 90 day delivery frequencies are available from A/C FilterSmart.
MERV means Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value which was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers (ASHRAE). MERV values vary from 1 to 16. The higher the MERV value is the more efficient the filter will be in trapping airborne particles. Another consideration is air flow through your HVAC system. Leaving a dirty air filter in place or using a filter that has too high a MERV rating may result in low air flow and possibly cause the system to not function at maximum efficiency. FPLES recommends a minimum MERV of 8 and a maximum MERV of 11 for most residential applications.

7. How do I decide which filter is best for my home or business?
A/C FilterSmart provides two options that fit most people’s needs. If your main concern is energy efficiency and protecting your A/C system, we recommend our Energy Efficient filter. If you are concerned about airborne contaminants try our Advanced Allergen Care filter.
8. How do I determine the size filter I need?
The easiest way to determine your size is to look at the currently installed filter. Most filters have the size listed on the frame. If this filter fits well, then simply use the same size when enrolling in A/C FilterSmart.
If your filter doesn’t have a size, or doesn’t fit well, temporarily turn off your AC/ unit and measure the air filter opening. If you have any questions, call us at 1-888-353-7451 and a specialist will help ensure you get the best size.
9. Why are there two sizes listed on my filter?
Filters usually are listed by both their "nominal" size and their "actual" size. "Nominal size" is the size most commonly seen on the filter borders, and "Actual size" is the actual measurement of the filter itself and is usually a little smaller than "Nominal" size. "Nominal" size is the measure we use.
10. Can regular replacement of air filters save energy and reduce system maintenance costs?
Our air filters are suitable for most residential and commercial cooling systems that use 1 inch (1") air filters of this type. High quality rigid frames are used to prevent unfiltered air from seeping around the filter and moving into your home or business. Our filters not only help protect your indoor environment, but also protect your cooling system. According to the United States Department of Energy, "Keeping the filter clean can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5 to 15 percent." For additional information on how air filters may save energy and reduce system maintenance costs please review information from the U.S. Department of Energy or Energy Star®.
11. How do I install an air filter?
Remove your A/C FilterSmart filter from the shrink wrap and remove the paper wrapper. Then simply remove your old air filter and replace with your new one - make sure the arrow matches the direction of air flow.
12. Where do I find my air filter?
For most A/C systems in Florida, the filter is located in one of three locations. If the Air Conditioning return unit (blower) is located in a closet area, often the A/C filter slides into a slot on the bottom of the A/C unit. The second location is in a return located on a wall - there is a removable grill and the filter sits behind it. The final common location for filters is in a return grill in the ceiling. Don’t forget that if you have two inside units, you likely need to replace two filters at the same time.
13. Does A/C FilterSmart use fiberglass in their filters?
A/C FilterSmart filters do not contain fiberglass. The filter media and frame are manufactured in America using new supplies, materials and components and that meet or exceed filter manufacturing standards.
14. How much energy will you save changing your A/C filter?
This is impossible to determine for a specific home. However, the U.S. Department of Energy has stated that keeping the A/C filter clean can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5 to 15 percent.
