Generator Program
What are the benefits of buying my generator from FPL Readi-Power® Program? There are many. Readi-Power is one of a few of companies that provide the entire solution, fuel supply, permitting, and generator installation. With Readi-Power you know that the company will be here when you need us - even years from now. Readi-Power works hard to make you aware of all the costs upfront to avoid surprises during the construction phase.
I have checked other prices and Readi-Power generators seem high. Make sure that you are comparing apples to apples. For example Readi-Power provides the first year preventative maintenance, and if you need a propane tank, we fill the tank the first time. We do this so that you know the total cost up front, and so that you aren’t left to handle these things on your own. Additionally, there is plenty of coordination involved in installing a generator and Readi-Power handles all the coordination which reduces the amount of time you need to be involved.
What is the lead-time for getting a generator installed? Call 1-800-334-1960 for current estimated installation timeframes. Installation intervals can vary significantly depending on the workload of the governing authority, weather conditions, availability of suppliers and more. The best advice is to get started early.
I have heard that generator installations can take six months or more. Why does it take so long? There are many reasons. First, like any other hurricane related item, generators are in great demand. Additionally, the supply and work load of qualified electric and fuel contractors could be an issue. The filing and approval by city and county governments of construction and fuel permits as well as approval by home owners associations, and weather related delays all add to the timeline. While installing a generator with a fuel supply sounds like a simple process there are actually many steps involved in the process.
I know that smaller generators are made, but I don’t see them listed. There are many suppliers for smaller size generators that can provide the essential necessities during a hurricane. Readi-Power is one of the few companies that specialize in providing a total household solution of fuel and generator, so we have focused our business on fulfilling those needs.
Are there any space requirements for putting a generator on your property? Most municipalities require a generator to be at least 10 feet off the property line and the generator must be five to ten feet from the side of your house. A generator with the pad is about 5 feet wide. That means you need approximately 20 to 25 feet on the side of your house to place a generator. The generator can be placed in the backyard, but that may drive up the cost. The only way to be sure is to contact Readi-Power for a site visit.
Preventative Maintenance
Is this an extended warranty plan? No, this is a preventative maintenance plan that is designed to keep your generator in optimal running condition, so that it is always ready if an outage occurs.
How often should a generator have service work done it? Check your owner's manual, but most manufacturers recommend every six months or after 50 hours of running time.
Will you perform emergency service for my generator? Only if FPL Readi-Power installed your generator, in which case you should call 1-800-355-8290. If someone else installed the generator you should call them in an emergency.
Who provides the service? Technicians who have been trained and certified by the manufacturer.
How long will it be until I am scheduled? Once you call 1-800-334-1960 a rep will contact you within a week and will send you a contract that needs to be signed and returned. After that they will put you into the schedule based on manufacturer’s recommended service schedule. If it has been more than six months since your last service, we will try to get you scheduled quickly.
